How to maintain a car? 7 types of Checklists to maintain your car at its best

Table of Contents

Here we have gathered checklists for car maintenance basic. In this article, you will find information how to maintain a car in Bangladesh

Immediate response to the car-

  1. Check engine light:

The check engine light indicates that your electrical control system has run into which it cannot fix itself.

  • If this light is constant, Go to the garage As soon as you can;
  • If this light is flashing, Hands down and get to the garage right now!

  1. Tire Pressure light:

If this light comes on, check the tire pressure immediately. Top off the air in the tire(s) as needed. (Please check your USER MANUAL). There can be a possible leak in the car. So, check it out.

  1. Headlight and tail light:

Suppose a light is creating a problem or goes out. Try to check the blown fuse IF that’s not a problem. Replace cars immediately. Driving without any light can be unsafe and might get you some fines in Bangladesh (We all know about traffic police in our country. So, it matters)

  1. Wiper blades:

Imagine driving your car without wiper blades or a faulty one on a rainy day. We all want to enjoy a rainy day but a damaged or worn wiper can endanger everyone. It is cheap! Replace with another one.

Check monthly-

  1. Engine oil:

Every month you must check your engine oil level every month. Keep a bottle of engine oil with you. (kindly check your USER MANUAL for the exact engine oil of your car)

  1. Coolant:

It needs to be changed every month if you want a healthy car. If you do not use coolant (using water), your radiator may wear out soon. Most of the time in Bangladesh ENGINE OVERHEAT, FIRE IN the ENGINE BAY happens to poor monthly maintenance and not changing COOLANT monthly basis.

While changing it, make sure you use 50/50 water in it.

  1. Wiper fluid:

If you want to drive with a good vision from your cockpit, it matters to change your wiper fluid monthly. Please never use PLAIN WATER in it. It will damage your Glass and Wiper blade.

Every 3 months-

  1. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID:

Leave the car in park with the engine running; check the fluid and add the appropriate type (consult owner’s manual) if it’s low.

Change transmission fluid otherwise, you will face an expensive issue or might end up changing your whole transmission system which will be a tedious job for anyone.

  1. BATTERY AND CABLES:

Check that battery is mounted securely and corrosion-free; also make sure that cables are fastened tightly.

  1. BELTS:

Check that V-belts and serpentine belts are tight and in good condition. If they’re frayed or worn, replace them.

  1. ENGINE AIR FILTER:

The filter should be white or off-white; if it’s dirty or full of debris, get a new one, If you’ve been running on the same filter for a year, replace it even if it is not noticeably dirty.

  1. EXHAUST

Inspect for leaks and damage, especially if the exhaust is making a strange noise, Repair immediately if needed.

  1. TIRE PRESSURE AND CONDITION

Check the pressure of all tires, including the spare. Keep an eye out for uneven wear patterns, and generally look out for damage to treads and sidewalls. Maintain recommended tire pressure, and replace damaged tires.

  1. TIRE TREADS

A tire is worn out if its tread depth is 2/32″ or less. If you drive in wet conditions, a better limit is 4/32″. Check tread depth with a penny: If the top of Lincoln’s head is covered, you still have 2/32″ of depth remaining. Doing the trick with a quarter will tell you whether you’ve got 4/32″ left.

EVERY 5,000 MILES-

  1. ENGINE OIL AND FILTER

There are a lots of used cars for sale in Bnagladesh.

The owner of that car might not change the Engine oil, tire rotation or anything. make sure they all are good otherwise you will be in trouble at the middle of the road.

Change both the oil and filter, and be sure to use oil of the grade and weight specified in the owner’s manual. Oil change intervals can vary widely with age of vehicle and driving habits; consult the manual for the manufacturer’s recommendation.

  1. TIRE ROTATION

I wanted to buy low price used cars in Bangladesh. but found some of them are not fit. Tire rotation was one of the main issue in that.

Swap the front and rear tires, keeping them on the same side of the car (in other words, do not move the left-front, tire to the right rear of the car). Consult your owner’s manual beforehand, as there are certain types of wheels and tires that should not be rotated.

EVERY 6 MONTHS OR 6,000 MILES-

  1. CHASSIS LUBRICATION

If your car isn’t “lubed for life” (check owner’s manual), the chassis, steering, and suspension systems may need to be lubed.

  1. EXTERIOR

Clean your car when it’s dirty, at least twice a year if you’re driving on salt-caked roads in winter, wash once a month. Polishing twice a year protects your car’s finish and defends against damage and rust.

  1. WIPER BLADES

Replace even if they are not noticeably damaged.

EVERY 12 MONTHS OR 12.000 MILES-

  1. BRAKES

Check all elements of the brake system, including brake fluid, brake linings, rotors, and pads.

  1. CABIN AIR FILTER

Not to be confused with the engine air filter, the cabin air filter is located somewhere under the dashboard (often behind the glove box). It should be replaced annually.

  1. Coolant

The coolant system can be leaked. So, it’s better to check it at least annually if there is any leakage. Most of the time if you see the coolant level is very low that means something is going wrong with the coolant system.

Every 2 years-

Replace them:

Automatic transmission fluid

Air filter

Brake fluid

  1. Registration-

cost of owning a car in bangladesh

  1. Updating tax token-

To update the tax token, you need to pay 25000 TAKA for the Tax token. Make sure that you do not have more than 1 vehicle under the tax token. It will be double the amount that you will pay normally.

  1. Car maintenance-

10,000-15,000 taka per month will be your cost if you do not have a driver and driving the car by yourself. If you do not drive a lot, your car doesn’t need to spend that amount of money. But don’t forget that a car is made to be driven.

**There can be other costs that can come through depending on the vehicle’s condition. But these 3 costs are the main cost of a car in terms of Bangladesh.**
